Neck Pain Treatment Cape Town

Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people book. Most of it is mechanical and settles well with a mix of hands-on care, movement and simple changes to how you work and train.

Every assessment screens for the rare causes that need medical care, then builds a plan around what you need to get back to.

Neck Pain Treatment Cape Town
  • Acute stiff neck ("wry neck")

Waking up unable to turn your head is usually a sensitive joint and protective muscle guarding. It typically settles within days to a couple of weeks with gentle movement and treatment.

  • Desk and screen-related neck pain

Long static postures load the neck, but no single posture is "correct". Regular movement, workstation changes that suit you and strength work help more than holding yourself upright.

  • Nerve-related arm pain

Pain, tingling or numbness into the arm can come from an irritated nerve root in the neck. Most cases improve with conservative care. Weakness or symptoms in both arms need medical review.

  • Neck pain from training

Heavy shrugs, carries, overhead work and contact can all overload the neck. Training is adapted and built back up.

  • Neck hump concerns

A rounded upper back is common and often not painful. Strength and mobility work can help how it feels and moves.

How treatment works

  1. AssessHistory, movement and clinical tests, with screening for anything that needs a doctor.
  2. ExplainA clear diagnosis in plain language, and what recovery usually looks like.
  3. TreatHands-on care where it helps: joint and soft tissue work, dry needling or adjustments.
  4. RebuildExercises and a training plan so it holds up, with an end point.

When to get urgent medical care

  • A sudden, severe headache unlike any before, or neck pain with dizziness, double vision, slurred speech or trouble swallowing: seek emergency care.
  • Weakness, clumsiness or numbness in both arms or legs, or problems with balance.
  • Neck pain after a significant fall or car accident.

Questions

Is it safe to have my neck adjusted?

Serious complications are rare. Dr Tristan screens every patient first, explains the options, and uses mobilisation, soft tissue work and exercise instead whenever they suit you better. You never have to have an adjustment.

How long does a stiff neck last?

Most acute stiff necks improve within a few days to two weeks.

Should I use heat or ice?

Either is fine for comfort. Heat often feels better for stiffness. Neither changes the long-term outcome on its own.
